About the DISC2024 Conference
Danube Information Services Conference (DISC2024), took place on the 3rd and 4th of December, 2024, in Varna, Bulgaria. This year, the conference focused on the theme “A New Generation of Systems and Services along the European Inland Waterways.”
SUNDANSE participation
The SUNDANSE project team participated in the Danube Information Services Conference (DISC ‘24), which took place on 3-4 December, 2024, in Varna, Bulgaria. The teams’ participation served multiple purposes, including the strengthening of partnerships with stakeholders from administration, business, and academia involved in the sustainable development of the Danube basin.
During the “Presentation of European projects and developments” session, Mr. Prof. Dr. Eng. Puiu Lucian Georgescu, General Director of the REXDAN research infrastructure, introduced the SUNDANSE mission with the audience and emphasized the importance of teamwork within the EU Mission: “Restore our Ocean and Waters” in the context of sustainable development.
Prof. Nicoleta Bărbuţă-Mişu, together with Assoc. Prof. Sandita Pacuraru and Assoc. Prof. Timofti Mihaela from Universitatea „Dunărea de Jos” din Galați were also present, representing the great commitment of the SUNDANSE coordinating team to spread awareness about SUNDANSE objectives in developing sustainable sediment management solutions for the Danube River – Black Sea system.
Additionally, SUNDANSE team represented by the coordination team from “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați based in Galați (Romania), aimed to identify synergies with other projects that share similar objectives and activities across different regions of the Danube basin. The diverse participation also contributed to the international exchange of best practices, methodologies, and scientific approaches, particularly regarding the dynamics of sediments in the Danube.
