We invite External Experts to evaluate the
SUNDANSE Open Call #2 applications
– FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEMS –
The purpose is to establish a pool of independent, impartial, and objective external experts to evaluate project proposals
submitted under the SUNDANSE Open Call #2 – FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEMS.
These experts will play a critical role in selecting local and regional authorities from “associated regions” to replicate
sustainable sediment management practices within the Danube River and Black Sea system.

We are looking for professionals with significant scientific or professional experience in the following thematic areas:
Sediment & Physical Dynamics
Knowledge of sediment transport, quantity/quality monitoring, and the impact of human activities on river systems.
Environmental Solutions
Familiarity with testing or validating ecological and hydrotechnical solutions for river basins.
Integrated Water Management
Experience in river health, ecosystem monitoring, and environmental data analysis.
EU Proposal Evaluation
Proven track record in evaluating research and innovation proposals for European Commission programme
FINANCIAL REMUNERATION
Remuneration per Evaluator is €50 per evaluated proposal.

Expectations from the evaluators
Independent Evaluation
Conduct remote, individual assessments of proposals based on Excellence, Impact, and Implementation criteria.
Reporting
Produce an Individual Evaluation Summary Report (ESR) for each proposal and participate in consensus meetings if required.
Contractual Commitment
Sign a contract including a declaration of confidentiality and absence of conflict of interest.
Administrative Compliance
Undergo an administrative check and provide necessary personal information for contracting.
Key information about the SUNDANSE project




SUNDANSE is a €9 million Horizon Europe-funded initiative addressing disrupted sediment dynamics in the Danube River and Black Sea. The project aims to improve navigation, reduce flood risks, and protect biodiversity through smart, science-based solutions. Open Call #2 distributes €200,000 to at least three associated regions for replication activities.

No guarantee: Please note that this expression of interest to participate in the SUNDANSE Open Call evaluation as an external expert is NOT binding and does NOT constitute any commitment to the SUNDANSE project.
Selection and checks: The selection of the experts to support SUNDANSE in the evaluation of the Open Call will be taken at a later stage, since it depends on the number of received proposals, their origin, the domain that they target as well as the origin of the potential evaluators, their affiliations, their expertise and the balance between various criteria (e.g. gender, background, affiliation type, age, expertise etc.). Furthermore, we are obliged to frequently change experts that support in the evaluations of proposals. All experts contracted to support the evaluations will be subject to an administrative check — provision of personal information may apply.
Use of AI: AI tools may only be used for secondary purposes under the full responsibility of the expert, and will be required to document their usage. Uploading applications (proposals) to any AI tool is strictly forbidden as it violates data privacy, intellectual property, and security guarantees. The expert will be solely liable for any resulting data breach.
