Freshwater ecosystems are under pressure from pollution, climate change and competing demands on water. Monitoring tells us the state they are in. Management decides what we do about it. But the economics and governance of that decision are usually studied apart from the chemistry and ecotoxicology that produce the evidence. This collection sets out to connect the two.

We welcome Original Research, Reviews, Methods and Perspectives that link evidence to decisions. That includes contaminant fate and bioavailability, ecological status assessment, ecosystem-service valuation, pollution control and regulatory design, socio-economic resilience, and the monitoring and modelling tools that support them, including AI-assisted methods and Nature-based Solutions.
