We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the SUNDANSE project’s official website has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Sustainability Champion’ award at the 2025 .eu Web Awards. This significant acknowledgment, presented by EURid, celebrates outstanding websites within the .eu domain that demonstrate exceptional commitment to environmental and social responsibility. For us, this award is a powerful testament to our digital strategy and our dedication to fostering a sustainable future for the Danube River – Black Sea system.
The Vision behind the Design
From the very outset of the SUNDANSE project, the development of our website was envisioned as more than just an online presence. Our mission is inherently complex, involving advanced scientific research into sediment management, hydrological modelling, and a vast network of partners across Europe.
The challenge, therefore, was to distil this complicated work into an accessible, engaging, and informative digital experience, for all Danube lovers. The goal was to create a platform that not only presented our ambitious objectives but also showcased our on-the-ground efforts and their tangible impact.
We understood that the website needed to serve multiple audiences: policymakers seeking actionable insights, scientists exploring data, stakeholders keen on project progress, and the general public interested in the health of Europe’s second-longest river.
Crafting our Digital HQ
The journey to building the SUNDANSE involved many discussions and iterations to ensure every page, every graphic, and every piece of content clearly articulated our purpose: to develop holistic sediment management solutions, restore ecological balance, and ensure safe navigation. We focused on intuitive navigation, ensuring that information about our research campaigns, open calls for funding, and project results was readily discoverable.
Crucially, the website was designed with a strong emphasis on visual storytelling powered by unique SUNDANSE branding – employing clean design principles to illustrate complex scientific concepts and highlighting the natural beauty and ecological importance of the Danube.
Every element was chosen to resonate with our core message of sustainability and to inspire engagement with our critical work.
A collective success
This award is a collective achievement, reflecting the dedication of the entire SUNDANSE consortium, with a special mention to our partner – F6S Innovation.
Moreover, we extend our sincere gratitude to EURid for this esteemed recognition, and equally, to every individual who has visited our site, engaged with our content, and supported our mission.
